Program Description

Students will have the opportunity to learn about the past and present social context in Guatemala, gain a greater understanding of the global dynamics of power and poverty, and contribute to the community through service projects. Students will construct a home for an impoverished family, join Guatemalan Social Workers on home visits, receive one-on-one Spanish language instruction, and have the opportunity to build personal relationships through local home-stays with Guatemalan families.

This course may be taken as the required Community Service Learning course (SOWK 201) or as an elective (SOWK Special Topics 399)
